Thom Macleod

Thom, in his role as Managing Director, is responsible for providing strategic guidance and direction to all staff within the organisation to ensure that Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd achieves its financial vision, mission and long term goals.   

Thom commenced his career in the construction industry as a Building Technician with Tulloch in 1990 and remained with Tulloch (latterly Rok) for 18 years.  Thom escalated quickly through his career path from Technician to Site Manager to Contracts Manager to Construction Manager and became a Director in 2000.   During his time with Tulloch (Rok) he trained in all disciplines of the construction industry, specialising in the operational and technical delivery aspects of the organisation and being responsible for Northern Scotland with a budget delivery of circa £70m.  

In March 2009, Thom was one of the founders in setting up the new construction entity that is Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd.  In the intervening period  Thom has overseen the growth of the organisation from a new business start up to a respected builder with a turnover of circa £39.9m, directly employing 171 staff.   The company has now built up a wide ranging portfolio of clients, projects and expertise across all types of construction ranging from minor maintenance and insurance works to major new build construction projects. 

Thom is a keen supporter of skills development, with the contribution of the business being recognised nationally when it became SME Construction Apprentice Employer of the year 2018/19. 

Paul Cowie

Paul, in his role as Operations Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of construction management delivery within Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd.  

Paul commenced his career as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor with Tulloch in May 2001 progressing rapidly through the ranks to the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor.  In 2008 Paul broadened his experience and moved to Abu Dhabi to carry out the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor with Gulf Leighton where he was responsible for all commercial aspects on a £140m 4 star twin hotel development on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.  On completion of the contract in September 2009 Paul returned to Scotland where he accepted the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor with Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd and developed his career to his current position of Operations Director. 

Lesley Gordon

Lesley joined Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd as Financial Controller in 2010 prior to being appointed to Director status in 2020. Lesley is responsible for the preparation and collation of all matters relating to management and corporate accounting across our group’s sphere of operations. In addition to her financial role Lesley is also heavily involved in human resource management.

Following becoming a Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in January 2000 Lesley commenced employment with Eagle Consulting as a Management Accountant responsible for servicing the needs of a large range of clients including hotels, fish farms, transport and IT companies. Subsequent to this Lesley was appointed Company Secretary/Financial Control at local IT company Albanet Ltd where she was responsible for the Group Accounts and very much involved in the acquisition of a subsidiary IT company. Prior to her current position as Financial Director of Compass Building, Lesley was employed as Outsourcing Client Manager for Tenon.

Robin Kernaghan

Robin joined Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd in 2011 and is responsible for overseeing CVR collation and reporting, payments, measurement and supporting the Operations Director in relation to all operational contractual matters.

Following graduation Robin spent 2 years as a Project Quantity Surveyor looking after Defence Estates Projects prior to moving to the contracting side of the industry initially with R J MacLeod but latterly with Tulloch Construction/Rok prior to joining Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd.

Gavin Brown

Gavin joined Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd in 2011 as Senior Contracts Manager responsible for taking on a client’s brief and liaising with all key personnel including statutory authorities to ensure successful delivery.

Gavin’s career commenced as a Building Technician with Morrison Construction, where he progressed through the ranks before joining Tulloch Construction in July 2007 as a Contracts Manager. Following the demise of Rok, Gavin had a brief spell with Morgan Sindall before joining Compass. During Gavin’s experience in the construction industry he has developed an ability to liaise and co-ordinate with all levels of management, design teams and workforce to deliver a quality product, on time and within budget.

Andrew MacMaster

Andrew joined Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd in the role of Design, Build and Proposals Manager having responsibility for identifying project opportunities, business development, coordination of bids and proposals and customer relationship management.

Prior to joining Compass Building and Construction Services Ltd, Andrew spent 12 years working for Tulloch Homes/Express initially as Affordable Housing Director and latterly in a dual role encompassing Design Director, 5 years within the Development Department of Albyn Housing Society and 10 years as a Project Quantity Surveyor with Torrance Partnership. During this time he has gained a strong and detailed knowledge of construction projects delivering projects from initial conception to completion.
