Compass were pleased to complete the first phase of internal and external refurbishment on South Lodge Primary School during the Autumn of 2025.
The internal renovation works were largely undertaken during the summer holiday period of 2025. These works included the alterations and refurbishment of the Primary 1-3 toilets and an upgrade to the staff toilets and cloakrooms.
The external roof renewal extended to some 700m². This was a complex operation involving the removal of the existing finish, refurbishment of the substrate, alterations to existing falls, kerb detailing and roof-water drainage renewal.
Of fundamental importance was the rapport that was established with the school headteacher, the staff and indeed pupils. Whilst we benefited from having the 7 weeks at summer to significantly advance the project the size and scale meant that it was not possible to condense all the works into this period.
The programme was developed, in conjunction with the school and members of the client team, to ensure that disruption was minimised. The work above classrooms was unavoidable, as was the associated noise, whilst it was imperative that the roof was closed back in section by section to avoid any possible ingress of water.
We also worked closely with the school to ensure that traffic management was strictly co-ordinated, that security of our site was maintained and that fire exits were at all times preserved as these passed through our perimeter scaffold.
It was really pleasing to see the project delivered on time and on budget and we very much look forward to working with the client on the next phase of the works in Summer 2026.
