DYW took students on a go behind the scenes construction site

DYW (Developing the Young Work Force) took senior students from Portree High School and Plockton High School on a go behind the scenes construction site visit with Compass Building and Construction Services. Kitted out in high-visibility jackets and hard hats, they were taken to a live building site in Broadford. During the visit, students learned about the different processes and the variety of career options available to them in construction, project development and engineering. They also learned about health and safety, roofing, brickwork, insulation, scaffolding and energy efficiency.

As part of the visit, Compass also shared updates on their new Portree housing development, the first phase of which is scheduled to go to site later this year – one of several projects approved for the area that will bring quality homes to local communities.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions throughout the tour, including about Compass’ upcoming apprenticeship opportunities designed specifically for young people in the region. It was great to see their enthusiasm and curiosity about careers in construction.
